A young chippie plans to roll up his sleeves to transform a former hoarder’s home in Geelong West after snapping up the bargain buy.
The state of 102 Isabella St may have shocked the first-home buyer’s mother on first inspection, but it proved no deterrent for the Melbourne tradie.
He paid $480,000 for the two-bedroom weatherboard house at Saturday’s auction.

One other bidder, who also saw a chance to add value to an ugly duckling in a blue chip suburb, dropped out of the race at $475,000.
Jellis Craig, Geelong West, agent Marcus Falconer said the purchase ended the chippie’s four-month search for a home in Geelong.
“With the support of his family his is basically buying his first home – it is certainly going to be a job,” Mr Falconer said.
“It is absolutely entry level. It was originally a hoarder’s house and it was in a sort of state but he has got the inspiration to convert it.
“His mother was in shock, she was open about that, but his father and himself they are going to take it on.”
Listings under $500,000 are a rarity in Geelong West, where the median house price is $856,000.
The $449,000 to $493,9000 price guide reflected the work needed to renovate the house, which sits on a 339sq m north-facing block.
The current layout includes an original central kitchen and meals area and a separate lounge with a wood heater.
“It’s the ultimate blank canvas,” Mr Falconer said.
“You are only limited by your imagination here, certainly it’s got good bones if you can look past the facade.”
