A first home buyer couple who arrived from Afghanistan just five years ago have snapped up a three-bedroom villa in Blacktown at auction for $800,0000.
“They were at their absolute limit,” said Ray White Quakers Hill agent Taylor Bredin.
“If it had gone any higher, based on affordability and the government incentives up to $800k that meant they don’t have to pay stamp duty, they would have missed out.”
Afshin Khaniardestani and his wife, Atoosa Hedayat, understood to be in their 30s, had liked the villa at 6/14 McCulloch Rd because it’s low maintenance and within walking distance to the shops, schools, parks and public transport.

The villa at 6/14 McCulloch Rd, Blacktown sold for $800,000.
The result was $10,000 over the $790,000 reserve.
“This is their first home and they were so excited because they had been looking for the past 10 months and finally found their dream property,” Mr Bredin said.
The guide had been $760,000 and all three registered bidders had competed.
“The auction started strong at $700,000 before rocketing up to $790,000 then the eventual sale price, which was above the reserve.”
Mr Bredin said 90 per cent of those interested were first home buyers with the rest downsizers.
The property had last traded for $685,000 in 2022, when purchased by an older couple who were now upgrading.

He said despite affordability and interest rate pressures, Blacktown was a hotspot for first-timers.
“There’s just a lot more choice — you can get everything from units to townhouses and villas and freestanding properties all under $1m, whereas in Marayong, Lalor Park or Kings Langley you’ve barely got any choice — usually just a unit,” he said.
Meanwhile, a young couple who had help from the Bank of Mum and Dad snapped up a three-bedroom home in Coolaroo Rd, Lane Cove for $3.46m, a whopping $660,000 over the reserve.
Though the sales agent said this was a special home, buyers’ FOMO fast disappearing.
