Surprise inclusion in stunning Hills property

[[{“value”:”

A Mount Pleasant home is a tranquil escape from the stresses of working life and offers you the chance to live an idyllic rural lifestyle, all the while enjoying a passive income from two commercial businesses also on the property.

Joshua Fraser and Dwayne Mitchley bought their 13 Glen Devon Rd property in 2018, looking for a project and a place to give their daughter a relaxed country lifestyle.

“When we first saw it we loved it and knew it was going to be a lot of work, but it’s something we grabbed with both hands,” Mr Mitchley says. “There were vines growing through the roof and some of the locals have said they didn’t even know there was a house beyond all of the overgrowth. And then the inside job started and it has been done slowly but surely.

“We wanted to give it a timeless look throughout – that kitchen, we think it will still look good in 50 years and it suits the style of the house, and we’ve done the whole home sympathetically. There is also a bakery and a hairdresser at the front of the property. Those tenants we’ve inherited rent the premises from us, and all of that income has gone back into this property, as well as, of course, a lot of our own.

“We’ve also grown our own beef and put a fat steer in the freezer every year; we get our own lambs processed, we’ve got the chickens and the fruit orchard and a 1ha, 271-tree truffiere we’ve planted. We’ve had three hunts this season and they were successful every time, so that’s a bit of a bonus for the next owner.”

Set over two levels, the home, which offers 253sqm of internal living space, has five bedrooms, with the master suite on the upper level and complete with a walk-in robe and an ensuite. The other four are downstairs and here you’ll also find an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, a family bathroom with a separate bath and shower, and two separate living rooms.

There’s also a detached building – the old servant’s quarters – with a studio/store room, a laundry, a utility area and a wood store. A double garage is nearby, and adjoins a 12.1m x 9.4m hay or implement shed; and the home also has a loft storage area, and three chicken coops with runs.

“It would honestly suit so many people – from families, to those wanting a rural lifestyle, to retirees or even someone wanting a weekend country escape,” Mr Mitchley says. “We’re now looking to create our dream hew build somewhere in the Hills, but we leave with an incredible strong sense of achievement. Hopefully we’ve given it a life for another 100 years.”
